Surviving yourself in the uncertain times

It’s been four months since COVID-19 outbreak in Indonesia. People are adjusting many ‘new’ things in their life. From work style, how to buy things, keeping healthy, workout, learning etc.

It goes the same with our mental state. People are excited when this ‘new normal’ finally happened in Indonesia. Throughout the times, many people are feeling so exhausted, stressed out or even worse. Slowly but surely, our mental state has taken a toll from this outbreak.

I, too, have been affected by this pandemic in many ways. I lose my job. I feel so lonely and left out. I miss my hometown so much. It takes a long time just to apply for a job and get processed. I disappoint my family because I couldn’t secure my job. I almost trigger my depression that has been overcome since the end of 2019.

But at the same time, I get so many blessings in disguise because of it. I could socialise with people around Kost (boarding house). I decided to catch up online classes I have left several months ago. I practise mindfulness. I, even, help people with all strengths and skills I have. I develop my cooking skills again.

The last thing, I learn to love and appreciate everything about myself. Yes, I accept that I have flaws. I accept that my path to success is different from others. I learn that I deserve to be loved by myself and others, just like everyone else does to themselves. I learn that I control what I can control.

From the deepest part of my heart, I believe that you can survive in this turmoil time. Ask yourself what you can do to survive, what you can control and you can’t. Accept the things you can’t control, learn, and move on from it. You know what is the best way for you to survive.

We could pass this trial together. Even if you can’t, please never hold that by yourself. You have people just to listen to your problem or support you. Some people care about you even they don’t know or realise about it.

In the end, we deserved the rights to live and be loved. Let’s spread the peace and love to our surroundings.
