It’s been a while since I wrote my emotional journey story several months ago. Now I’m in a much better and healthier mental state. But for today, I’m focusing on how I finally get to the job I always dreamt of? A recruiter …

It began in February last month when a job opening for IT Recruitment Consultant in Bandung. As someone who was struggling with my job-seeking adventure, my heart suddenly beats so hard and I sensed something good about this opportunity.

While having so much experience being interviewed for the recruitment consultant position, I had no idea that as IT recruitment consultant I had to understand their whole world like tech stack (programming language, framework, tools, etc.), portfolio, web repository and other things I was unfamiliar before.

But still, I didn’t want to lose this opportunity and I struggled so much from it. Fortunately, I got myself this job and moved to Bandung, the city where my current company located. Everything was handled well before my first-day work there and I was given learning materials for onboarding period.

I never thought that I have one month onboarding period with my current company. Even before my first day of work, I learnt every aspect of technology from their talent, tech stack and also covering UI/UX a little bit.

I felt so confused in understanding many IT programming languages such as Java, PHP, C++, JavaScript, Go-Lang, Ruby, etc. It also includes frameworks like Spring, Ruby on Rails, Django, etc. Tools such as Mixpanel, Matlab, Tensorflow, Sharepoint, etc. Also, other things that I need to catch up before my first day of work came.

When my first day came, I did my best to grasp all the materials delivered and also learning from people whose experiences are better and longer than mine. My curiosity about UI, UX, Product and Project management is also growing when I am working with my current company.

Every class offered by the company I take it to enhance my knowledge and expertise in the art of recruitment. Although it’s not done yet, I feel much better when I have someone to guide me in my job which I never have in the previous one.

After two weeks, I got placed in the executive or business area which covered product management, project management, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX).

I was challenged to make a presentation about the knowledge of product manager, project manager and roles that related to UI/UX area. I did my research and created the best one I could. I presented it to my teammate and they said that my knowledge is already good also asked me to improve some things I didn’t cover before.

I also got the same feedback from my HRBP (read: Human Resource Business Partner) and noting to myself that I should catch up on my knowledge about UI/UX and business so I could do my best.

Now, I am grateful to where I am right now. Having the job that I always dream of. The supporting environment that helps my career growth but becomes more professional at the same time because I don’t want to do the same mistake as a year ago.

PS.
I also realise that my colleague and junior in University could learn more about UX research and considering this field as their future job because in this digital age we need more researchers to help Indonesian startup and business ecosystem while creating an impact at the same time.
