Bittersweet Career Journey in a Unicorn Company

August 2021. It began.

I never expected myself that I was going to work in a unicorn company, especially when it is one of the leading unicorn focusing on a travel and lifestyle such as Traveloka.

My mind was in a different mindset at that time. Focusing on getting a new job and resigning from Glovory, a small software house located in Malang, a city where I spent several years on finding who I was, what purpose I lived in, etc., were the only things to make me stay sane.

Yeah, why did I have to say that? Because ….

The moment I stepped and worked at Glovory was only looking for stable work and peaceful life at that time. But it turned out to be otherwise, I had to face the time when I couldn’t do my job properly. I had to face uncertainty about the company’s sustainability, and also wondering if my career journey made a progress.

I was in the edge of insanity. I stressed a lot. I almost got myself going to the psychologist again, for the second time. In short, I was unhappy at all.

I told my leader that I was planning to resign and sending my resignation letter once I got a new job. That’s my goal to become sane.

After a gruelling recruitment process, I got myself an offer to work in a unicorn company like Traveloka. Although the position I got was not the one I expected.

And back again to where I start the story, Traveloka.

A company which I never dreamt to work at, not even the slightest. But I felt so welcomed there, even I didn’t know anyone at that time.

I remembered when I was paired with Stephany, my teammate turned into friend who always shared her burden with me. She joined two weeks earlier and also confused on what to do during my onboarding period. We spent our time by just having a chit-chat and sharing our confusion.

Later, my buddy was changed to Sitti Khadijah, or simply called as DJ. She was the one who finally helped me in adapting to the culture at Traveloka. Turned out that she loved watching horror movie, I felt we could have a great bond during my journey there.

Then, I was introduced to Edricko Janitra Nathalim, Hirzy Handrio Irvan, whom I went to help with in the tech recruitment. Also not forget to mention Citra Octricia, Syainindya Mekar Alipi, Angeline Gunawan, Hesti Hardiyanti Hastuti, Tamara Fatwa Yulindra, Adjie Hasan, and Puteri Emiliani (although I just e-met her during my farewell haha) who made my day really fun.

During my working tenure there, I also happened to have many leaders. First, Ci Mascha whom I was thinking to be straightforward and strict, turned out that she is the sweetest and most caring person I’ve ever met. She loved to take care her team with utmost care and followed up their condition. Second, I was led by Sherly Harefa, who could act so chill and focused at the same time. And last, Listia Anindia, whom I could make an instant bond because of her warm approach.

I knew that I struggle a lot. But I learnt so much lessons here, and never regret my decision for the rest of my life. Even though, I have decided to resign and look for another opportunity because I am looking for a stable and permanent position, also personal matters. In my heart, the only regret I have is when I have to say “good bye” earlier to my friends who are still working there.

But someday, when the time is right and all of you are still working there, I would love to come back and grow together with all of you. Psstt, just a little secret, I have accepted a new job and going to start my new journey ASAP.

Can’t wait to share my journey in the new company later.
